You’ve likely noticed our new logo, we hope it’s provoked some interest and rekindled your curiosity about who we are. Compassionate Care ALS is on an upward moving quest to bring the best comprehensive support to our clients, and one of the areas we are expanding is our work with consciousness.

We feel the need to say the logo is not a maze, it’s a labyrinth. The maze is full of dead ends and dark avenues, a place where people get lost and bewildered. The maze would be a sorrowful, albeit sometimes true metaphor, for people who travel through the sphere of ALS. With each turn there’s a distinct lack of remedy and antidote, closed doors and unanswered questions. Dissatisfied, frustrated, and feeling somewhat alone, they turn back and try another road. This way is so disheartening, tiring and confusing. At CCALS we come across many families who pass through the maze; our all-inclusive approach is to find solutions and to keep walking with you into knowing.

The metaphor of the labyrinth symbolizes a reflective journey of life. It’s an ancient pattern with profound purpose. Found throughout the world in various cultures, usually within a spiritual context, it is not bounded by religious beliefs. The structure can adopt many forms, but the path will not intersect itself. The passage to the center of a labyrinth represents the movement toward an objective, ripe with intention, to the inner tapestry of being. Upon entering the interior, the mind becomes quiet, spacious, with room to release that which may be concealing your capacity and preventing transformation and acceptance. With each baby step the barriers dissolve and new ways of engaging in life become available. The continual disruptions and conditions within the ALS sphere can easily bring the mind to close down. This is symbolic of the labyrinth too, its very nature takes you closer to the center, and seemingly ushers you away as it curves back and forth, but the truth is you are nearing your core, which can feel uncertain and uncomfortable.

We have professionals who will work with you, walk with you, toward your goal, so in those moments of despair you are fully supported. With each new predicament that arises the labyrinth can be entered, the path...one of descent...deep into consciousness, possibly suggesting difficult stages with its turns and continuous spiraling appearance. The impressions of the journey bring solutions, clarity, and renewed faith as you tap into your own innate awareness and cultivate the power of discernment. The emergence from the center is one of integration and assimilation of your new insights and wisdom into your current life situation. Walking the labyrinth allows you to restore the painful places of the heart.

So whether you have ALS and decide to look inward, or you are a caregiver or family member who feels initiated and senses an upwelling of an inner call, we offer a vast array of assistance to heighten your capacity, to interpret your experience clearly, and welcome you to walk the labyrinth with us.

Most importantly, the archetypal logo, the circular labyrinth is illustrative of wholeness, healing and community. This is what inspires CCALS, what we wish to compassionately express while bringing coherence and clarity to the most difficult questions poised in the complex choices, and uncertainties of the ALS life.
