On August 9, 2009 at 1pm, the Newport Country Club (NCC) will host a shotgun scramble in support of Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS).  The NCC is a beautiful 18-hole, 72-par course featuring magnificent views with a variety of challenges and well-kept greens. Tournament entry includes greens fees, cart rental, player gift, refreshments and a tournament Awards Dinner. Proceeds from this tournament will go to CCALS, a non-profit organization that has been supporting Gilbert C. Tabor as he struggles to meet the everyday challenges of living with ALS.  Bring your friends and family for a little competition and enjoy the day in wonderfully scenic Vermont.

About Gil Tabor

Gil Tabor’s family and friends describe him as being wise and personable, with a dry wit – a real man’s man, who loves hunting, fishing, trapping and enjoying all that Vermont has to offer. Gil is a native Vermonter and Korean War veteran, who worked for more than 26 years in public service. After serving in the US Navy for four years, Gil worked with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to found and direct Vermont Service Center in 1981. When Gil retired in 1993, he had accrued two years of unused sick time. Between 2000 and 2006, Gil remarkably contracted, fought, and beat prostate, kidney and bladder cancer. After making a complete recovery, Gil was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as ALS, in April 2008. Gil continues to inspire those around him and to make people laugh. Since receiving his ALS diagnosis, Gil has begun working with Compassionate Care ALS, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and guidance to families who are struggling to adjust their lifestyles to the challenges of ALS. Gil and his family are incredibly grateful for the support that they have received from CCALS, and they are working to encourage others to support this important organization. The Tabors wish to use all proceeds from the tournament to support CCALS.

Compassionate Care ALS is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, tax ID 04-3567819, and will provide a receipt allowing you to claim a tax deduction as allowed by law. Donations by credit card will show up as Paypal *CCALS* on your statement.
