This event is being planned in memory of Michael Sullivan and Doug Oakley, and in support of CCALS.

Michael resided in Dorchester, MA until 1978 when his family moved to Milton, MA. Mike attended Boston English High School, and New Preparatory School in Cambridge. He graduated from Boston State College with a degree in education, and taught a number of years in the Boston Public Schools and coached ice Hockey at Stoughton High School.

Mike loved music, sports and travel. He taught himself how to play guitar with the influence of folk, Irish, and popular music launched his career as a musician in the Boston area and Cape Cod. He participated in baseball and ice hockey at the youth, high school, and college level. After college, he played for a semi- professional hockey team, the Fitchburg Hornets in the New England Hockey League. He won many awards and has since been inducted into the Boston English High School’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Mike founded and coached a youth hockey organization in Dorchester and also coached hockey at the high school level. His travels began when he was selected for an All Star Prep School hockey team to tour Europe in the late 60s. He traveled to Ireland on many occasions, as well as traveling extensively through the U.S. and Canada. Mike moved to Cape Cod in 1994 where he started his own painting business.

A long-time resident of Weymouth, Doug graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1980. He earned a culinary arts degree from Johnson and Wales University, and a Masters degree in Leadership from Eastern Nazarene College. Doug loved to travel and meet new people. He visited family and friends regularly all over the United States and Canada.

A motorcycle enthusiast, Doug’s most memorable trip was traveling 8152 miles around the four corners of the United States on his motorcycle while raising money and awareness for ALS. Doug was also a life-long hockey fan and enjoyed watching the Bruins and playing hockey from “youth” to “old man.” Doug served as a board member for the beneficiary of the ride, Compassionate Care ALS, which supports the physical and emotional needs of patients and caregivers touched by ALS. Doug was an inspiration to his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews, who watched him continue to have a zeal for living in spite of being diagnosed with a debilitating illness. Doug’s advice to all of us; “Live life don’t wait for life to come to you.”
